Take Action

Our Interventions:

  1. Repatriation: Protection of trafficking victims is key in breaking the cycle of the vice. This involves sending them back to their country of nationality or residence, family and community where deemed appropriate and in the best interest of the victims. Ensuring that the victims are repatriated safely, with dignity and without undue delay and that they are treated according to internationally accepted practices.
  2. Rehabilitation: Rehabilitation through group residential rehabilitation or "shelters" for trafficked victims plays a necessary part in a comprehensive effort to address human trafficking, this includes prevention, protection and prosecution. These shelters provide services that can help trafficking victims recover and move toward reintegration into society.
  3. Advocacy and dialogue: The advocacy and dialogue Programme takes place at both national and regional levels and it undertakes initiatives to build strong relationships with grassroots stakeholders across Africa to ensure that there is a common ground across- borders on victim protection and policy reform. As such, organize trainings, workshops and dialogue sessions with academic institutions, religious leaders, cultural leaders, politicians, and the civil society organizations.
  4. Legal empowerment: Many victims of human trafficking across Africa are re- victimized either due to poor criminal justice system, lack of proper information and skills by law enforcement or lack of free and accessible legal services to victims. Thus, the AHTTF is at the center to ensure that governments have comprehensive measures for assisting victims especially where victims have no legal documents to either be repatriated for temporary resident permits for those prepared to testify against their traffickers. The AHTTF also, carries out legal assessments and advice governments on their counter-trafficking protection measures and reforms and to ensure that there are Victim-Centered Anti-Trafficking Policies across legal systems.
  5. Shelter and safe custody: or many trafficked persons, this form of assistance is vital in their initial stabilization and recovery as well as in their longer term assistance and reintegration
  6. Re-integration of victims: Economic empowerment and social resilience are key factors in supporting the abilities of victims of human trafficking to overcome poverty and vulnerability to re-trafficking. Well as men are victims, in most of the African societies, women and girls are more vulnerable and they are at a high risk to be re-victimized and face discrimination and exploitation and not be fully accepted in their communities which as a result affect their capability to fully re-integrate and participate in the decisions of their lives. Thus, AHTTF empowers victims through start-up capital support, offering artisan skills and access to international markets, and the ability to control their finances.
